San Francisco Chiropractor explains booster shots for Covid-19

Why are they recommending booster shots for Covid-19?

The FDA has now approved and recommend a third COVID-19 shot for those with weakened immune systems.

Why do we need boosters?

Booster shots are like adding more players to a team to fight off infections.

They are necessary if you need to maintain or boost immunity for the original shot that we have gotten. In the 50s and 60s we wanted to help people prevent getting Polio so vaccines were created to save lives.  We don't hear a lot about Polio these days but the CDC now recommends that children get polio vaccine to protect against polio even though it has been eradicated since 1979.

Inactivated polio vaccine (IPV) is the only polio vaccine that has been given in the United States since 2000. IPV is given by shot in the leg or arm, depending on the patient’s age. They were given three shots in the 50s and 60s.  Oral polio vaccine (OPV) is used in other countries.

The reason why some people need booster shots is because doctors say that the initial vaccine surges right after injection but the antibodies wear off over time.  A small number of ‘memory’ B and T cells are left behind, which continue patrolling the body but boosters help by adding more players to the team.

Our body is a intelligent, well oiled machine!  It does so much without us even knowing it is happening.

1. Our heart beats without us telling it to

2. Food is digested all on its own

3. We breathe while we are sleeping

4. It heals wounds all on its own

Our body knows when something is bad for us.  That is why we vomit, have digestive issues (constipation/diarrhea), sweat, have a fever etc.

If we have a strong immune system, we can handle almost anything!  Chiropractic boosts the immune and helps your brain and body function at it best.  Dr. Amie Gregory, DC, CCEP in our San Francisco Chiropractic office can help with pain, injuries, pregnancy and wellness.  Contact us today!
