Tap water is not safe to drink anywhere in the United States

What is in Redwood City's Tap Water?

Most people think our government keeps our water safe for us. Well, according to research done by the Obama administration, our drinking water gives us a higher risk of cancer based on what is coming out of our tap. This concerned me so I went to EWG’s tap water database and looked at the list of contaminants in Redwood City’s drinking water.

This is going to really scare you but there is a solution so don’t worry. All of these chemicals on this list are toxic to the body, cause issues with your systems and can cause cancer and issues while pregnant. Hmmm, I wonder why so many women are having problems with fertility and birth? This may be one of the culprits. I have copied and pasted each contaminate directly from the website.

  1. Bromodichloromethane:

This is one of the total trihalomethanes (TTHMs), is formed when chlorine or other disinfectants are used to treat drinking water. Bromodichloromethane and other disinfection byproducts increase the risk of cancer and may cause problems during pregnancy.

  2. Chloroform (one of the total trihalomethanes (TTHMs):

Is formed when chlorine or other disinfectants are used to treat drinking water. Chloroform and other disinfection byproducts increase the risk of cancer and may cause problems during pregnancy.

  3. Chromium (hexavalent):

is a carcinogen that commonly contaminates American drinking water. Chromium (hexavalent) in drinking water may be due to industrial pollution or natural occurrences in mineral deposits and groundwater.

  4. Dichloroacetic acid:

One of the group of five haloacetic acids regulated by federal standards, is formed when chlorine or other disinfectants are used to treat drinking water. Haloacetic acids and other disinfection byproducts increase the risk of cancer and may cause problems during pregnancy.

  5. Trihalomethanes:

These are cancer-causing contaminants that form during water treatment with chlorine and other disinfectants. The total trihalomethanes group includes four chemicals: chloroform, bromodichloromethane, dibromochloromethane and bromoform.

  6. Trichloroacetic acid:

one of the group of five haloacetic acids regulated by federal standards, is formed when chlorine or other disinfectants are used to treat drinking water. Haloacetic acids and other disinfection byproducts increase the risk of cancer and may cause problems during pregnancy.

  7. Chlorate:

Tis forms in drinking water as a byproduct of disinfection. Chlorate impairs thyroid function, making chlorate exposure most harmful during pregnancy and childhood.

  8. Haloacetic acids:

Formed when disinfectants such as chlorine are added to tap water. The group of five haloacetic acids regulated by federal standards includes monochloroacetic acid, dichloroacetic acid, trichloroacetic acid, monobromoacetic acid and dibromoacetic acid.

  9. Strontium:

Metal that accumulates in the bones. Radioactive strontium-90 can cause bone cancer and leukemia, and any form of strontium at high doses can harm bone health.

  10. Vanadium:

Metal used in steels and other alloys. People are commonly exposed to vanadium in water and food. Excessive exposure can be toxic during pregnancy and childhood.

Okay, so now that I have gotten your attention…

What can you do to get healthy drinking water?

Get a reverse osmosis filter for your water. You can get it for your tap water and your refrigerator water as well. Costco, amazon and many other places sell them and they are easy to install. Make sure it makes your water alkaline and does not raise your PH levels to acidity.  Acidity leads to more illness.

One thing that a lot of people do is drink only from plastic water bottles. Please do not. It is not only wasteful but there is tons of data out there showing issues caused by phthalates in the plastic that is absorbed in the water leading to health issues. If you want to have your water in a bottle, please use a glass container. This goes with pretty much any food or liquid.

Water is so important for our body to drain out toxins, replenish and function correctly.  Make it healthy!
