How dentistry can affect your general health

Dentist Amalgam fillings can effect your health

Root canals, amalgam fillings, nickel crowns effect more than the teeth

0204574001558623954.jpgDr. Westin Price was a renowned dentist who did research and wrote several books regarding dentistry and the effect on teeth and the human body.

One book entitled Nutrition and Physical Degeneration showed the effects of the western diet on teeth opposed to cultures eating a non-western diet. He found less problems with cavities and tooth structure.

He also did DNA studies over two centuries ago which confirmed that toxic dental materials have created general health problems. Dental mercury fillings, nickel crowns which in kids is called chrome crowns, root canals and holes in the jaw line after tooth extractions called “cavitations” all can have ill effects leading to neurological issues, digestive problems, sexual issues or a plethora of issues depending on what teeth have been effected.

Each tooth in our mouths has nerves that branch out to areas of our bodies which include our organs. If bacteria or metals bother these nerves, it will have negative ramifications to areas those nerves send signals to.

Since 1840 mercury has been exposed as leading to health issues. The dental profession finally admitted that putting toxic mercury in the mouth might be detrimental to human health and have decreased the mercury in fillings, although the use of 50% of this metal in fillings is still considered “state of the art.”

Data performed in the past regarding metal was done on cadavers. The tissue is different, blood flow and cells are no longer active and this metal was shown to not have ill effects on the body unless there was heat in the mouth which pretty much is all the time when we are alive. So maybe finding an alternative to metal may be something to look into when considering a filling?

Close to a century ago, Dr. Price as well as the Mayo Clinic uncovered that root canals were toxic to the body. Dr. Price wrote a book in 1922 disclosing this information and the American Dental Association denies that they are toxic and states they are safe.

Dr. Price states: “My attention was drawn to the increase in autoimmune disease after the high-copper amalgams of 1975 were initiated as “state of the art” fillings, which ADA claimed released no mercury. On the contrary, studies from Europe found that the high-copper amalgams released fifty times more mercury than previous amalgam!”

He stated there were increases with auto-immune as well as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis.

Can bacteria get into a root canal?

Dr. Westing and other studies have found problems with mercury and also found that bacteria from root canals can create auto immune diseases and other health issues that may be hard to track if your not looking for it.

What is common about both mercury and root canals?

Hapten formations:

This is a small molecule that can elicit an immune response only when attached to a large carrier such as a protein.

“Healthy cells have a code imprinted on them. It is called the Major Histo-compatibility Complex (MHC). This is your personal code called “self.” Your body considers other code or alteration of this code to be “non-self.” The immune system is trained to kill and eliminate any “non-self” invaders”.

0465441001558624004.jpgIf an atom of mercury attaches to a normal healthy cell, a hapten is formed and the immune system immediately identifies that cell as “nonself.” What this does is start our immune system to try and destroy these cells. If mercury attaches to a nerve cell, the nerve will become diseased like in cases of Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Lou Gehrig’s disease and Lupus. If it is on a hormone then hormones will be effected. Basically, any cell can be effected by haptens.

Auto immune diseases have become prominent in our society. Dr. Price found bacteria in nearly all root canal teeth that he studied. He took the bacteria and placed it under the skin of rabbits. He found that root canal fragments from a person who had suffered a heart attack, when implanted into a rabbit, would cause a heart attack in the rabbit within a few weeks. This was 100% of the time. Having a tooth that is dead given a root canal and having the body then be invaded by this bacteria is harming the patient. What is worse? A dead tooth extracted or chronic illness of the patient?

So with this data it is imperative to find a holistic dentist that uses materials that are not toxic to the body. I am not anti-dentistry. We should take care of our teeth. Just with someone who uses safe methods.

0566504001558624028.jpgDr. Amie Gregory, DC, CCEP, ANFAt Precise Moves Chiropractic Wellness & Sports, we look at the body as a whole and determine what the “root” of the symptom is (no pun intended). A symptom may be showing itself based on many factors going on in the body. Just treating the symptom may bring temporary relief, but we need to find out how to get your body working the way it should so those symptoms don’t show up again.

Dr. Gregory understands the body and finds the cause and solutions of health issues.  She is located in San Francisco and San Carlos, CA.
